LEIRIA DISTRICT - VILLAGES, CITIES AND INTERESTING PLACES


The district of Leiria is a Portuguese district located in the Centro region, divided between the traditional provinces of Beira Litoral and Estremadura. It borders on the north with the district of Coimbra, on the east with the district of Castelo Branco and with the district of Santarém, on the south with the district of Lisbon, and on the west with the Atlantic Ocean. It has an area of ​​3 506 km² (13th largest Portuguese district) and a resident population of 470 895 inhabitants (2011). The district seat is the city with the same name and includes the administrative seat of the Diocese of Leiria-Fátima.
It has 110 parishes spread over its 16 counties.
The district of Leiria is subdivided into the following sixteen municipalities:
Alcobaça; Alvaiázere; Ansião; Battle; Bombarral; Queen syrup; Castanheira de Pera; Figueiró dos Vinhos; Leiria; Marinha Grande; Nazaré; Óbidos; Pedrógão Grande; Peniche; Pombal; Porto de Mós.
Leiria is the leading district in the manufacture of metal molds, and the extractive, manufacturing, and civil construction industries are also of great importance. Even so, the brand image is linked to glass, plastics, wood, textiles, and agribusiness. The industry is mainly found in the municipalities of Leiria, Alcobaça, Marinha Grande, Pombal, and Caldas da Rainha, which guarantee 70% of the industrial units in the district and 75% of employment in this sector.
