Bombarral is a Portuguese village in the district of Leiria, located in the province of Estremadura and integrating the Intermunicipal Community of the West in the Centro region, with about 4 400 inhabitants.
It is the seat of the municipality of Bombarral with an area of 91.29 km² and 13,193 inhabitants (2011), subdivided into 4 parishes (Bombarral and Vale Covo; Carvalhal; Pó; Roliça).
The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Óbidos, to the northeast by Caldas da Rainha, to the southeast by Cadaval, and to the southwest by Lourinhã.
The village of Bombarral is located on a very fertile alluvial plain bordered by low hills, on the left bank of the Real River, and at an altitude of 50 meters.
The base of the municipality's economy is mini-land agriculture, where wine, pear-rock, and vegetables stand out.
About 4 km from the village there is an almost mandatory place to visit, it is the Bacalhôa Buddha Eden.
In August, the National Wine and Pera Rocha Fair is celebrated, an ideal time to visit the village and get to know the main agricultural product of the municipality.
Due to the implantation of the Republic, in 1910, the Igreja Matriz I (near the site of the current Junta de Freguesia) was burned by republicans, which gave rise to the construction of another, the Igreja Matriz II.
